I wonder why both times the dairy farm workers declined bird flu testing, even with the family of one opting for testing.

Positive it’s because if they were found positive they couldn’t work. Just like how people didn’t/don’t report covid infections to not miss out on work. Horrible.

So why was that dairy worker allowed to have a choice on being tested or not? Testing should have been a requirement.

These are probably the same kind of people that didn’t wear any PPE during Covid too

thank you for sharing this dr. rubin! i wonder if you might happen to have any information on what the transmissibility is like between bird feces and domestic indoor cats? i worry about the potential of possibly unknowingly stepping in bird feces from an infected bird and transmitting it to my cats. is there anywhere you might recommend i could read more on this, or is my anxiety getting the best of me? 😅 thank you!

I’ve had the same thought. I’m way more worried about my cats than I am me so I went and bought a Clorox spray disinfectant for my shoes. It’s the free and clear one that’s made of citric acid. As far as I can tell citric acid is a good disinfectant for bird flu based on my own little bit of research. I take my shoes off in the garage and spray them out there when I go for walks. I just hope it’s enough 😭

Hypochlorous acid is also a great option. Very safe and has many uses.

can the virus be spread from human to cat or just by animal byproduct exposure to cat?

Very true. I only came across Dr. Rubin within the past seven days, and it seems that he has a history of being available and helpful to many people.

I made my indoor outdoor rescue cat indoors only with catio access. It was so hard and he still wants to be let out, he does not understand this at all. All shoes stay at the door and come summer the will stay outside in a covered box

I would definitely say at this time do not feed your animals raw milk, raw or freeze dried food.

I started wearing my mask again today, got my measle vaccine yesterday. Have hand sanitizer in my car, at my desk, and in my bag. This is so frightening.

May I ask what prompted you to get a measles vaccine? I’m nervous about everything happening too, and wondering if I should get a titer test to see if my immunity went down on anything 😓

hortonnorton's avatar

I took the titer test and I didn't have the measles antibodies. And, the measles outbreak has just entered my state of NM from TX.

Thanks for the reply! I will have to check if my insurance covers titers, I’ve been seeing a lot of people discovering their immunity has decreased. There’s been one case in my state but luckily 97% of school children are vaccinated here so herd immunity is good

Did anyone look at the food consumption of the indoor cats affected? Chicken by-product?

Last year’ish when so many dogs and cats were getting ill from dog food, with the same symptoms described and owners were placing blame on Purina and other dog foods could this have been the bird flu all along? Many of Purinas plants are in rural areas and they raise their own chickens for their feed at their center in Missouri.

Thank you for sharing. I take my shoes off at the door and I have been wiping off my dogs paws when they come in so they don't bring anything in the house. I'm glad I've been doing that because I also have cats. I didn't even think about them being so vulnerable to it because they are inside cats. This bird flu is getting really scary.

Hi Dr😊

Question

If cattle are infected with the virus should we be concerned about using freeze dried beef type dog foods? I feed my Yorkie freeze dried beef and the company also makes freeze dried chicken patties too. I am wondering if virus transmission is possible when using freeze dried food products for our pets. I don’t think it’s cooked. Just not sure now what is safe

I've watched some videos from vets on this and they did say to avoid any raw meats, freeze dried or gently cooked kind of products at this time
