As a sociolinguist who studies public understanding of health and science, the new .gov Covid page, with minor exceptions, is written at a level that at least 50% of the adults in the US would not understand.
I know this is unrelated, but I am wondering your take on what Dr. Oz said today about chronic illnesses, how they are a drain on healthcare and it is our patriotic duty to be healthy. It felt like a final gut punch to me after RFK, and then seeing this website. I am so saddened and feeling defeated by all this ableist propaganda.
Sometime in the middle of the pandemic, I had read an article about people in Spain who had been sick I believe it was in summer of 2018, in which the sickness was unknown but samples were saved, and when Covid 19 was announced the samples were tested at some point and found to be Covid 19. After I read that, I noticed it was only one article and not being widely reported, then when the findings of the U.S was released I fully expected to see in those findings about that since it would mean that it was spreading before it started making headlines and was somewhere else prior to China so unlikely to be a leaked lab incident, but none of that was in their findings. I was confused at that point and went back to look it up and it's still searchable, but I was wondering if you had heard this before or what your opinions on it are? And thank you for all your efforts to keep the public informed and updated, people definitely need it more now than ever, and you seem to be well researched and knowledgeable on a variety of topics so I thank you for all the time you take out of your life to do so. 💜
the sad thing is that the Redhats reading the White House page will point to it and say, "look, we were right!" the good thing though, is lots of them won't read it. or can't. 🤦🏽♀️thank you for the work you do, it is important to those who still value science and truth. 💖
This is great, Dr. Rubin, if a couple of technical terms, even when explained, made my head spin. This administration and its unqualified representatives seem hell-bent on killing as many people as possible. I am terrified by this use of disinformation.

There are timelines, expert opinions, and explanations on gain of function research that support Dr. Rubin’s statements. It is concerning that highly inculpatory statements appear on Covid.gov. It will take time to read the 557 page Final Report of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic Committee on Oversight and Accountability.
As a public health nurse, that whole site is infuriating!!! The propaganda and outright misinformation. I’m livid.
