Vaccines and Autism - what the debate looked like over 20 years ago between my dad and RFK Jr.
What did my dad and RFK Jr. say about vaccines and autism back then?
My dad, Dr. Ira Rubin, is a general pediatrician who is still practicing today. For several years, he was a medical contributor for ABC News. I remember seeing some of his clips when I was a kid. He was also invited to the White House to see a town hall meeting with President Barack Obama who was pitching the Affordable Care Act to the American people on live national television. There was one clip that I vividly remembered because a camera crew came to his office to ask him his thoughts on vaccines and autism. After much digging, I found it and it is listed below. This is a first look at the clip before I post it to my other social media platforms:
I still cannot believe that I am talking about the same issues that my dad did over 20 years ago.
Keep in mind that thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative, was removed from most vaccines except some influenza vaccines back in 2001. The diagnosis of autism continued to increase despite this.
I will continue to educate on public health issues and will weave in my usual allergy education at the same time.

Thank you. Mom of a wonderful woman who was born in 1999, and diagnosed with Autism in 2002. My husband and I are both medical professionals, and at one time, I beat myself up mentally every day after she was diagnosed until I read enough scholarly peer reviewed studies to convince the scientific side of myself that vaccinating her properly was not the cause of her autism. We intervened for her autism before she was diagnosed, and long story short she is a graduate of a Big 10 university with a degree in Graphic Design, working in insurance. She drives, has friends, has an IQ of 135, is a friend to all, and can cuss like a sailor when appropriate. She’s a pretty cool person!
Thank you for sharing this!! I hope peer-reviewed evidence-based science will prevail for the sake of our children and public health.
